Doctor Who alum Matt Smith attended Wizard World Comic-Con Minneapolis over the weekend and spoke for the first time about being cast in Terminator 5.

Hypable told you late last week that Smith had joined the franchise in a “major role” with a “strong connection” to John Connor, the son of Sarah Connor.

Though Smith was tight-lipped about his part at Wizard World, he didn’t shy away from expressing his feelings about joining the science fiction story and spoke of how he grew up with Terminator.

“I’m very excited to be a part of the Terminator franchise because those movies – those first two movies particularly – were brilliant. It’s very exciting,” he said.

“Anyone our sort of age has an affection for those films. It’s like my childhood seeing Arnold [Schwarzenegger] throw people from trucks. What’s not to like about that?”

When asked what’d it be like to have Schwarzenegger kill him on screen, Smith drew a line. “If Arnold killed me on screen – yeah but then I wouldn’t be in it anymore!”

And we don’t want to see Smith die so quickly! By the sounds of the initial report about his casting, he should be a part of the series for more than one movie.

Peter Capaldi has replaced Smith on Doctor Who. The new Doctor will slip into the iconic role starting later this year.
