Last night Matt Smith appeared on the U.K. talk show Chatty Man hosted by Alan Carr. He not only debuted a new clip for tonight’s episode, The Power of Three, but he also talked about his future on the show.

Aside from the obvious pleasure of seeing a new clip from tonight’s episode featuring Amy trying to zap one of the Doctor’s hearts back into rhythm, the real gem of the interview is Matt Smith’s iPhone going off in the middle of the interview and his dad trying to chat with him on live TV.

Matt Smith again reiterates that he is not leaving Doctor Who any time soon, stating the he, “has loads to film yet”. He also dispelled any rumor that he and new companion Jenna-Louise Coleman are in any kind of relationship together. Apparently, there’s a bit of an unwritten rule that the Doctor shouldn’t date the long term TARDIS companions as it would supposedly ruin any acting chemistry.

Speculation about the Doctor and the companion is nothing new. Back when David Tennant and Billie Piper played the Doctor and Rose Tyler, the tabloid press frequently speculated that they had more than a working relationship. Those rumors were put to rest once Tennant had a very public, long-term relationship with Sophia Myles whom he met when she played Madame De Pompadour in the episode “The Girl in the Fireplace”. He is currently married to Georgia Moffett, the real life daughter of the fifth Doctor Peter Davison. The two met when she played the title character in the Doctor Who episode “The Doctor’s Daughter”.

Do you agree that the Doctor and companion shouldn’t date? What did you think of the clip?
