Don’t worry, Battfleck fans — there’s still a solo Batman movie in the works over at Warner Bros., and according to director Matt Reeves, a new draft of the script is on the verge of being finished.

As you might remember, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes helmer Matt Reeves took over the reigns on the Caped Crusader flick after Ben Affleck announced in February of 2017 that he was stepping down as director on the project in order to focus on producing and starring in it.

Though production on the Affleck-led Batman movie has gone through some rough patches, Reeves recently gave an update on how things are going.

During an appearance at Fox Network’s TCA presentation in promotion of The Passage, Reeves revealed to reporters that currently, his top priority is finishing the script.

“We are working on getting our draft [in] the next couple of weeks and things are progressing,” Reeves told press in attendance at the event according to Deadline. “We have conceptual stuff going and coming into being and my head is totally in the script. In fact, I’m going to be leaving right now to work on the script.”

In addition, Reeves revealed that he hopes that the superhero flick is ready to kick off filming by this time next year in the spring or summer of 2019.

Though the director couldn’t give too much away with regards to the plot of the story, he did confirm that fans shouldn’t expect another Batman origin story.

“I’m just excited to be focused on a tale that’s defying for [Batman] and is very personal to him, but at the same time we’re really— obviously we’re not doing any origin tales or anything like that— but definitely Batman, emotional, and him being the world’s greatest detective,” said Reeves.

This isn’t the first time Reeves has given an update with regards to how things are going.

Last summer when it was confirmed that Affleck’s initial script was being tossed out in favor of a new story written by Reeves himself, the director likened his story to being “almost Hitchcockian,” and “noir-driven.”

We’ll be curious to see how the story pans out whenever the latest iteration of Batman hits the big screen.
