After a wave of press and publicity announcing that Simpsons creator Matt Groening officially revealed the actual location of the family’s hometown, the man behind the series speaks out to clarify his words from the interview.

In a TV Guide exclusive he claims, “I never said Springfield was in Oregon.” Although it was inspired by his home state, it was never meant to take place there specifically. The Simpsons show runner Al Jean added that, “They misinterpreted something I’ve heard him say for at least 10 or 20 years,” but goes on to admit that he’s “flattered they still care.”

So what do you think now that it’s confirmed that Springfield is NOT officially in Oregon? Was the press frenzy for nothing? Where is it really? Will we ever know?
