Matt Damon is now the latest big name to join George Clooney’s next directorial effort, The Monuments Men, a WWII-period drama that Clooney also wrote and will star in.

We first reported on the project – described as a historical heist film – back in January, and since then the likes of Jean Dujardin, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Daniel Craig, John Goodman, Bob Balaban, and Hugh Bonneville joined the cast.

As if that cast wasn’t impressive enough, Deadline now reports that Matt Damon is in negotiations to team up with Clooney once again. Damon’s exact role in the film was not specified in the report.

Deadline writes of the story:

The drama, which was scripted by Clooney and partner Grant Heslov, confronts the final chapter of Germany’s rule, which came down to the absolute destruction of everything that makes a culture keep its standing, including the lives that are lost and the sacrifices that are made. All of this is in danger of being lost forever as Hitler and the Nazis try to cover the tracks of a murderous regime. A crew of art historians and museum curators unite to recover renown works of art that were stolen by Nazis before they are destroyed.

An interesting note on the film – in addition to the amazing cast, of course – is that Clooney and Hezlov are employing the same crew that worked on Ben Affleck’s Argo, which the pair produced. Oscar-nominated composer Alexandre Desplat is scoring The Monuments Men, which is set for a January start date in Europe.
