In a spoiler chat with Kristen Dos Santos, Ty Burrell reveals what audiences can expect with guest star Matthew Broderick coming onto Modern Family.

Matthew Broderick, most famously known for playing the title character in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, is set to put in an appearance on Modern Family as Phil’s new, slightly neurotic friend.

Talking about the plot line for Broderick, Burrell says that Phil will “go on an accidental date with him,” with the twist being that “he thinks it’s a date and [Phil] doesn’t know it’s a date.” He also teases the possibility for a kiss, which is sure to be made into a great gif on Tumblr. Discussing Broderick himself as an actor, Burrell gushes, “I’m a huge admirer of him as an actor, so i think I’m the most excited I’ve been.”

No word yet on what episode he will appear on or more specifics on his storyline, but this writer would definitely enjoy seeing a Ferris Bueller homage. Even Dylan just singing the song “Twist and Shout” would fit well into the episode, but Broderick probably has had this played to death to him, so it’s unlikely.

Recently, Broderick has done little acting for TV besides another guest role on 30 Rock. He’s been on Broadway for Nice Work If You Can Get It.
