Mattel and Sony Pictures have found their writers for their upcoming Masters of the Universe reboot.

Based on Mattel’s popular line of toys, successful ’80s animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, and the 1987 movie of the same name, Sony Pictures’ Masters of the Universe reboot is moving forward with a new writing duo.

According to Variety, Art Marcum and Matt Holloway have been tapped to pen the reboot, taking over the previous draft of the screenplay from David S. Goyer. Goyer will remain on board Masters of the Universe as an executive producer.

Marcum and Holloway are no strangers to collaborating with Sony Pictures, having recently completed Men in Black: International for the studio, which stars Thor: Ragnarok’s Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. It is due to premiere on June 14, 2019. The writing duo are also known for penning the scripts for Iron Man, Punisher: War Zone, and Transformers: the Last Knight.

The original Masters of the Universe movie centered around He-Man as he attempted to obtain the Cosmic Key, an item capable of open a portal to anywhere. His mission to keep the Cosmic Key out of the hands of Skeletor took him to Earth, and he teamed up with a group of humans to defeat his arch nemesis. The movie starred Dolph Lundgren as He-Man, and Frank Langella as Skeletor.

There is no word yet on whether the reboot will follow on from the 1987 movie, re-tell the story, or take it cue from the animated series instead. However, we’re excited to see where Marcum and Holloway take the script, and what He-Man’s next big adventure will look like on the big screen.
