Showtime’s new drama Masters of Sex will air its season 1 finale this evening.

The freshman show – which picked up a Golden Globe nomination for Best Drama earlier this week – will wrap up what has been a fascinating first season when it premieres at 10 p.m. eastern/pacific.

The synopsis for the Masters of Sex season 1 finale reads, “Masters’ work on human sexuality culminates with a hospital-wide presentation of his and Johnson’s research findings. But when Masters attempts to push the envelope with the external footage of the female orgasm, the doctors’ response to the film is not what he had hoped. Meanwhile, Haas entertains a job offer at UCLA Hospital and considers what a move would mean for his relationship with Virginia. Scully pursues electroshock treatment with the hope of curing his homosexuality but Margaret has second thoughts about the risks involved.”

It looks like tonight’s storyline will wrap up the major threads of the season: Masters’ goal to present his findings (though last week he admitted to his wife that this research can go on forever), a potential end for Haas and Virginia, which is a step towards Masters and Virginia’s eventual reunion, and Scully’s sexuality – which was the reason Masters got to conduct his study at their hospital. We’re glad to see Allison Janney will be making a return as well.

Tonight’s episode was written by Michelle Ashford, who also wrote the first episode of the season and co-wrote the fifth episode. It is directed by Michael Dinner, who also directed episode 2.

Don’t be too sad about the show coming to a close for the season! Showtime has renewed Masters of Sex for season 2.
