Citing “incredibly painful” player feedback, Bioware has announced they will be retooling the controversial end to Mass Effect 3.

In a statement released today, Bioware co-founder Ray Muzyka announced the studio is working on “a number of game content initiatives” in addition to other DLC in response to heavy fan criticism to the end of the epic space trilogy.

“Our first instinct is to defend our work and point to the high ratings offered by critics,” Muzyka said, “but out of respect to our fans, we need to accept the criticism and feedback with humility.”

More details on the ending content will be released in April, according to the studio.

It’s not clear if the new ending will completely replace the original that has caused all of this uproar. “We’re working hard to maintain the right balance between the artistic integrity of the original story while addressing the fan feedback we’ve received,” the statement continued. “This is in addition to our existing plan to continue providing new Mass Effect content and new full games, so rest assured that your journey in the Mass Effect universe can, and will, continue.”
