The Mary Poppins Returns full trailer is here, and everyone’s favorite nanny is back and still practically perfect in every way.

We’ve been waiting for a deeper look into the Mary Poppins sequel, Mary Poppins Returns for some time now. With Emily Blunt playing the iconic Mary Poppins and Broadway legend Lin-Manuel Miranda playing the children and Mary’s friend, Jack, the sequel was certainly stacked with talent in its male and female leads. However, when the first film in a franchise was made famous thanks to the performances of legends like Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, it puts some pretty high expectations on any sequel, even one made decades later.

However, after getting our first look at the full trailer for Mary Poppins Returns, we’re feeling pretty confident this movie will feel like a fun, fresh, new adventure that recaptures the fun and whimsy we felt after watching the movie from 1964 while also staying true to the original’s heart.

Mary Poppins Returns follows Jane and Michael Banks as adults living in Depression-era London. After the family suffers a devastating personal loss, Mary returns to help the Banks children — both the actual Banks children and Jane and Michael. Using Mary’s unique and magical skills, she is able to help the family rediscover joy and recapture that childlike wonder she first taught Jane and Michael all those years ago.

This movie is shaping up to be a brilliant new adventure with Mary Poppins, and even better, the sequel seems to have the approval from key players involved in the first film. Dick Van Dyke will make an appearance in the movie (though not as Bert), the estate of P.L. Travers, the author of the books, has given the movie their stamp of approval, and the queen herself, Julie Andrews has praised the decision to make another film and cast Emily Blunt in the beloved role. Andrews even chose to not appear in the movie to ensure she didn’t take the spotlight away from Blunt.

All in all, this is everything we want in a sequel for a beloved film, and we can’t wait for the East wind to blow and bring Mary Poppins back into our lives. Mary Poppins Returns premieres in theaters on December 19.
