The Spider-verse is about to get a little bit bigger. Producer Amy Pascal and Sony are in the early stages of development for a Silk adaptation.

Pascal, under her Sony-based Pascal Pictures, has several Spider-verse projects in development, including Venom, Silver and Black, and now Silk.

Silk follows the adventures of Korean-American superhero, Cindy Moon, a classmate of Peter Parker. Cindy was also bitten by a radioactive spider, and has many similar abilities to Peter. Her Spider-sense, or Silk-sense, is more advanced than Peter’s, and she has an eidetic memory and the ability to shoot web from her fingertips.

The character was created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos, and made her first comics appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #1 in April 2014, though she remained faceless in that issue. Cindy eventually made her full debut in The Amazing Spider-Man #4, and got her own standalone comic, Silk, in 2015.

This potential spinoff will not mark Cindy Moon’s first outing in the Marvel Cinematic universe. Cindy, as played by Tiffany Espensen, appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming, as a member of Peter’s decathlon team. That role was reprised, briefly, in Infinity War, with Cindy being one of the students on Peter’s bus at the beginning of the movie.

Sony has not commented on the project, and details are being kept under wraps. So, for now, there’s no knowing whether the Pascal-produced standalone movie for Cindy will spin off directly from Homecoming, with Espensen starring, or if the project will be entirely separate.
