Marvel’s New Warriors will be the latest straight-to-series order at Freeform, focusing on young people with very unorthodox powers.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new series will incorporate fan favorite Doreen Green, a.k.a. Squirrel Girl, into its lineup of freshly-minted heroes. Bright, confident, and creative, Doreen uses her squirrel (and girl) powers to tackle problems large and small.

New Warriors focuses on a group of six young people, learning to navigate both their unusual abilities and the tumult of growing up. Kevin Biegel (Scrubs, Cougar Town) will write and helm the half-hour comedy.

Freeform has ordered 10 episodes for the first season of New Warriors, which will debut in 2018. The series joins Marvel’s romantic teen drama Cloak and Dagger at the network, and adds another facet to Marvel Television’s considerable stable of entertainment.

In addition to established series like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the ongoing Defenders anthology on Netflix, Marvel is also bringing Inhumans to ABC this fall. The popular comic Runaways is also being adapted for Hulu, and has X-Men-related properties in the works at Fox.
