Marvel’s Defenders have crashed San Diego Comic-Con, and we’re live blogging the panel!

The Defenders panel marks the first time that Marvel Television has branched into Comic-Con’s hallowed Hall H. But if it were ever time to play with the big (aka, movie) kids, the highly-anticipated crossover series is certainly it.

All four stars of the Marvel-Netflix series — Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock/Daredevil), Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), and Finn Jones (Danny Rand/Iron Fist) — are expected to attend the Defenders panel. Other panelists are not confirmed, but could include Sigourney Weaver who plays the series’ villain “Alexandra,” as well as Jon Bernthal (The Punisher) and Elodie Yung (Elektra.)

And of course, the panel wouldn’t quite be complete without Rosario Dawson. Claire Temple has been the unifying thread throughout the stories of each of New York’s dysfunctional heroes, a role she continues to play in the Defenders trailer.

Since the series comes to Netflix in just under a month, it’s hard to say whether or not the Defenders panel at San Diego Comic-Con will include much in the way of major revelations. Still, fans can almost certainly look forward to teases, clips, and banter from the cast.

The Defenders panel isn’t the last time to catch these hot hot messes at Comic-Con either; the whole cast will be holding a signing on Saturday, and the poster is pretty freaking awesome. Man, they all look so pissed off.

‘Defenders’ SDCC 2017 live blog

Updates will be posted below. Refresh for the latest!

6:45 PM: Wow!!! No spoilers, but the Defenders are definitely not going to be in a “coming together” mood when the season starts. Jessica is depressed and Matt is busy with guilt and cases. Luke — freshly freed from prison, thanks to Foggy — is busy with Claire, but it’s he and Danny who still have half an eye on the hero scene.

The first episode The Defenders is filled with cameos from just about every beloved side character we’ve come to know and love. The lurking danger of a mysterious ninja (totally Elektra, btw) and the dire straits of Sigourney Weaver’s character Alexandra just round out the epic group.

The first episode does the work of getting us back into the gritty, dysfunctional realm of New York and it’s street-level heroes. It’s a terrible tease — we just want more!

6:00 PM: Holy crap! They’re showing the first episode! BRB!

5:59 PM: Charlie calls for more footage! Sigourney stands up and insists.

5:58 PM: This isn’t the kind of show with a headquarters or costumes. “If the superheroes are up in the skies, these people are all having fights in the back alleys and the shitty bars,” Marco says.

5:56 PM: Charlie says that “theoretically” he knew, thanks to his contract which included a vague section about the Defenders, that the show would coalesce. He’s thrilled to be in San Diego and Hall H. “This is our celebration,” he says.”

5:54 PM: Jeph asks Krysten how Jessica feels about working in a group for good. “Jessica doesn’t really want to play with others,” she says. “She doesn’t ask or want help… but underneath it all, she does have a gooey inside.” In the Defenders, Jessica “takes every opportunity to make fun of everything you’re doing, and make fun of Matt’s suit.” Jessica will bring “the sass and the funny” to the Defenders.

5:52 PM: Jeph points out to Mike that we’ve seen him get punched by Danny, but they’re going to become friends. “By the way, that didn’t even hurt,” Mike says. He’s excited for the relationships between the characters. He loved working with the ensemble cast. “We all had time off, and we enjoyed coming to set and seeing each other, and we’ll always remember that.

5:51 PM: Finn says that season 1 of Iron Fist was Danny’s first full arc, and he’s “inspired to take his responsibilities with more purpose and drive” when he meets the other Defenders.

5:49 PM: Drew Goddard told Jeph that Sigourney is “exactly what you want Sigourney to be.” She was first introduced to the Defenders at New York Comic Con, and says she was an enormous fan of the Marvel Netflix work. “They offered me a part I couldn’t refuse.” Her relationship with Elektra, she says, is “certainly one of the most usual relationships I’ve ever had, onscreen or off.”

5:47 PM: Elodie Yung says that Elektra “is an amnesiac… she’s trained by Alexandra to be a weapon. And I guess the question for my character is, how much of the character we know remains?”

5:45 PM: Jessica Henwick says Colleen has “had her whole life ripped away from her” at the end of Iron Fist. She and Danny will not be in New York at the start of Defenders. She says Colleen hasn’t come to terms with her trauma, and “needs to go through the grieving process.” She also promises more “being awesome.”

5:44 PM: Marco Ramirez calls The Defenders “Probably the most challenging writing assignment I ever had in my life.” Strove to honor all the characters equally and create a standalone series.

5:43 PM: Season 2 of Jessica Jones and Luke Cage are now filming. Season 2 of Iron Fist has been ordered — and Jeph teases Colleen’s friend Misty.

5:42 PM: Showrunner Marco Ramirez, Colleen Wing, Deborah Anne Woll, Elodie Yung, Sigourney Weaver (“the first lady of everything,” as Jeph says), Finn Jones, Mike Colter, Krysten Ritter, and Charlie Cox all come onstage! Everyone is slightly confused at where to sit.

5:33 PM: We’re getting a sequence!

Frank plays guitar with his daughter, the music reflecting into the present. He drives on a rural Alabama road, shot at by guys on motorcycle. Looking at the picture of his family, he recites “One batch, two batch,” and runs the men over. In Jaurez, Mexico, he snipes a man (mid-blow job!) from El Paso Texas. He tracks down the final member of the dirty deed-doers in a bathroom stall in JFK Airport. “What will it change if I’m dead?” the man asks. “Nothing,” Frank says, killing him anyway.

5:31 PM: Jon Bernthal comes out! Jeph says Netflix offered to give the Punisher his own series. “Frank’s very much in my heart, and I’m eternally grateful to get another crack at him.” He thanks law enforcement and comic book fans. “We’re gonna do our best to get it right, and I hope you guys dig it.”

5:31 PM: Jeph leads the crowd in singing Happy Birthday to Allie Goss.

5:30 PM: “We walked into Netflix, and we had a dream,” Jeph says, acknowledging the bad Ben Affleck movie, Jessica’s anonymity, Luke as the first black superhero and “a guy with a glowing fist.” Netflix was all in.

5:27 PM: Jeph thanks cast, crew, and New York City, “the fifth Defender.”

5:26 PM: “Note to Netflix and Marvel, you found a way to shut me up,” he says. Jeph tells the crowd never to give up on our dreams.

5:24 PM: Eddie comes back out to give Jeph the Inkpot Award for Comics and Television. He gets choked up thanking Jeph, who looks pretty overwhelmed himself. Jeph gets a standing ovation from the crowd!

5:24 PM: Jeph calls this “the culmination of a dream that started three years ago at the Netflix offices.” Also warns that there will be “strong language” used in clips.

5:22 PM: Jeph Loeb is out, promises surprises and guests. Asks the crowd to cheer for the people backstage, and everyone goes temporarily deaf. “You guys don’t need to wake up!”

5:20 PM: Eddie Ibrahim comes out to introduce the panel. We’ve all been waiting years for this, he says! Rolls a countdown clock with voiceovers from each series. “It’s just a city,” someone (Alexandra?) says. “You’ll get used to watching them fall.”

5:19 PM: Doors are closed!

5:16 PM: Still waiting. Come on, Defenders! San Diego needs you.

Marvel’s Defenders hits Netflix on August 18.
