Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph have been cast as the leads in Marvel’s new Freeform series, Cloak & Dagger.

Marvel announced today that Holt and Joseph will play Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson, tormented teenaged sweethearts who also happen to be superheroes. Aubrey Joseph has previously appeared in HBO’s The Night Of. Olivia Holt is a Disney Channel star and singer.

Cloak & Dagger will be Marvel’s first partnership with the ABC affiliate Freeform, and has been ordered straight to series. Based on the the comics series of the same name, Cloak & Dagger follows the once-privileged Tandy and impassive Tyrone, who both share a dangerous secret.

Tandy, who takes on the name Dagger, has the power to emit spears of light. Tyrone (“Cloak”) can create shrouds of darkness. The diverse teens find themselves drawn together romantically, but bound as well by their mysteriously complementary powers.

“Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph encompass the true essence of the characters and we are excited for the audience to see them in these roles,” says Jeph Loeb. The Head of Marvel Television will also act as an Executive Producer on the project.

Showrunner Joe Pokaski says, “The characters of Tandy and Tyrone have always stood out to me ever since I first met them in the pages of Marvel comics when I was a boy. When Olivia and Aubrey read for the roles, these characters leapt off the page.”

“We’re so excited to see what these talented young actors bring to the Marvel Universe.”

In addition to Cloak & Dagger on Freeform, Marvel is also partnering with IMAX to create The Inhumans miniseries for ABC. The network also has The Defenders in production with Netflix, and Runaways is in development at Hulu.
