The Marvel Hall H panel always dominates SDCC, closing out the convention’s biggest day. We squeezed into the room and live-blogged the action.

Marvel Studios, when they choose to grace San Diego Comic-Con with their presence, is the panel to get into. Saturday’s final presentation in Hall H is a clear favorite, with many attendees queuing for over 48 hours in order to be allowed entry into the hallowed hangar. In 2015, Marvel didn’t come to SDCC, choosing to exclusively reveal their news about Doctor Strange and Captain America: Civil War at Disney’s biannual expo D23 instead. This year is another D23 year, but thankfully, the studio chosen to present at both huge conventions, spaced one week apart.

The following is our live-blog of the Marvel panel, capturing ever moment as it unfurled.

5:51 PM Okay, Director of Programming Eddie Ibrahim. “Are you all in the right place?” Introducing moderator Chris Hardwick.

5:59 PM Opened with long video of Paul Rudd and Michael Pena explaining the entire MCU to the actress cast as Janet Van Dyne in Ant-Man and the Wasp: MICHELLE PFEIFFER.

6:00 PM Kevin Feige onstage to announce more Ant-Man and the Wasp casting, including Laurence Fishburne as Dr. Bill Foster.

6:00 PM A drawing of Carol in costume — Captain Marvel is set in early 1990s — before first Iron Man. Nick Fury will appear and have TWO EYES. Villains will be the first MCU appearance of Skrulls.

6:03 PM No other cast onstage yet — Eddie Ibrahim just presented Kevin Feige with this year’s Inkpot Award. Now it’s time for Thor!

6:04 PM Taika Waititi, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Mark Ruffalo, Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, Rachel House are all onstage.

6:06 PM What’s going on with Thor? No hair, no hammer? “Mid-life crisis, I think,” says Hemmo. Actually more that the character had started to bore him a bit and wanted to really go hard at making a change to Thor’s entire world.

6:07 PM Taika was also bored of what Chris was up to. “I just saw a friend in need.” He’s taking one for the team by making Thor: Ragnarok. Suuuure.

6:09 PM Every time they say Hiddleston’s name, the room starts screaming. Reminiscing over his Loki appearance — he’ll always be grateful to Hall H for that experience.

6:10 PM Thor comes home to Asgard and finds things very different, due to Loki-disguised-as-Odin. Mostly exercises in narcissistic adulation, etc.

6:10 PM Hulk is refusing to turn back into Bruce Banner, and is enjoying his life on Sakaar as a gladiator champion. Fully embraced the Hulk side — “he’ll be damned if he’s going to go back to Banner.” Hulk will also have the vocab of a two year old — he’ll talk, kind of — as he’s been in that form for two years.

6:11 PM Cate’s casting was also just a huge favor from Taika to a friend down on her luck. Suuuuure.

6:13 PM Jeff Goldblum’s character Grandmaster is the Collector’s brother – oldest living race in the universe. He rules Sakaar and loves games, including fighting games – he puts together the Thor and Hulk battle.

6:15 PM Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie — “just another friend in need” — is an Asgardian warrior on Sakaar and has a relationship, of some kind — not sexy — with Grandmaster.

6:17 PM Karl Urban is being prime Karl Urban, aka quoting Bones and making fun of Australia. Not much about his character.

6:18 PM Rachel House has been in four of five of Taika’s films — calls her his good luck charm and will put her in everything he makes. Cute. Okay, trailer time in one second! Taika is talking about the character he’s playing, Korg. More in a second.

6:28 PM Long extended scene in which Thor is introduced to Sakaar and the Grandmaster. Plus new trailer – watch below! More details on this soon.

6:30 PM Black Panther on now — Ryan Coogler, Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong’o, Michael B. Jordan, Forest Whitaker, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke, and Andy Serkis.

6:32 PM Hardwick talking with Bosemen about where T’Challa will be at, as a king, during Black Panther. A nice long quote we’ll get exact for you at the end.

6:32 PM Coogler talking about his relationship with comics, how he loved everything but as he grew up, he wanted to find a superhero that looked like him. Black Panther was the first one the store owner directed him to.

6:34 PM Most important factor to bring to the comics for Coogler: “T’Challa was someone who got his power from the people around him and from his history.”

6:34 PM Shuri, T’Challa’s sister, is the tech guru of Wakanda, she invents all the new things they come up with. This is a dream role for Letitia Wright.

6:37 PM Michael B. Jordan’s Erik Killmonger has his eyes on the throne and he’ll do whatever it takes to get into Wakanda and take it.

6:40 PM Forest Whitaker as Zuri — he’s a spiritual leader and was close friends with T’Chaka, T’Challa’s father. Another great quote we’ll grab in full about what he hopes Zuri can be for T’Challa.

6:41 PM They take a moment to thank Daniel Kaluuya for the game-changer of Get Out. His character is T’Challa’s best friend and head of security — he lives in the shadows to protect the king from threats.

6:42 PM “Wakanda needs to know what’s going on in the world, the world does not need to know what’s going on in Wakanda.” Lupita on what her character Nakia does. She’s a spy who goes undercover in the rest of the world to report back.

6:44 PM Winston Duke making everyone laugh by bigging up his character as the coolest of all. Okay, clip time, more on that later.

6:50 PM Saw clip of T’Challa and the Dora Milaje entering a casino to scope out a deal between Klaw and Everett Ross. A massive fight breaks out in the club. Then another new trailer to follow.

A poster was also released:

6:52 PM Okay, Avengers shenanigans — room is on its feet. We’re getting Avengers footage now.

6:52 PM Joe Russo comes out — “There’s no way in hell we’re not gonna show you some footage!”

6:59 PM Infinity War clip — looks like the same one reported on at D23, but we’ll break down what we saw in detail ASAP — check back in. It’s all true – beardy Steve, blonde Natasha and all. And now the lights are coming up and we’re done!

We’ll edit this post to include more extensive information once the panel has concluded.

See Thor: Ragnarok in cinemas from November 3 2017, Black Panther from February 16 2018, and Avengers: Infinity War from May 4 2018.
