Netflix teases the arrival of new Marvel series Iron Fist with a short video, key artwork and a 2017 premiere date.

Iron Fist is Netflix’s next Marvel series, following the just-released Luke Cage.

The series follows Marvel Comics character Danny Rand (Finn Jones), a martial arts expert with the ability to call upon the power of the Iron Fist.

Here’s Netflix’s official announcement video:

The solitary gong fades as the show’s key artwork emerges: a symbol of a dragon, drawn in smoke. We’ve previously seen this artwork on the first official poster:

The video then reveals the release date for the series:

‘Iron Fist’ hits Netflix on March 17, 2017

That’s only five short months away! Which gives us plenty of time to rewatch Luke Cage a thousand times, which we’re more than okay with.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2016, Netflix released a first look video for Iron Fist, which gave us a glimpse of lead actor Finn Jones (Game of Thrones) as Danny:

Jones is joined in the series by fellow Game of Thrones alum Jessica Henwick, as well as David Wenham, Jessica Stroup, and Tom Pelphrey.

The official synopsis for Iron Fist reads:

“Returning to New York City after being missing for years, Daniel Rand fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.”

Iron Fist is the first Netflix Marvel series delving into the more magical elements of Marvel’s universe, very appropriately coming just months after the big-screen release of Doctor Strange, which dabbles in a similarly mystical territory. Serving as showrunner on the series is Dexter‘s Scott Buck.
