Reports suggest that Marvel have finally set a release date for Doctor Strange, which may be headed to the UK for filming.

While we still haven’t heard confirmation from Marvel as to whether Joaquin Phoenix will be starring in Doctor Strange, a new report suggests that the release date has been set for July 8, 2016.

ScreenDaily reports that Marvel is in negotiations with the UK’s Pinewood-Shepperton studio, where they plan to film Doctor Strange during the middle of 2015.

We’ve heard many reports concerning who would star as Doctor Strange, but the name which seems to have the biggest possibility of being true is Joaquin Phoenix.

Phoenix certainly feels like he would do a fine job playing a neurosurgeon with incredible intelligence and magical abilities. He pulled off one of 2013’s best roles in Her, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination.

Phoenix looks as though he’s at the top of a very short list now and we wouldn’t be surprised to find out that his involvement will be announced by Marvel in the next few weeks. Phoenix will be a unique fit to join Marvel’s cinematic universe and Doctor Strange will require an actor of his caliber to help warm audiences up to the character.

While we’ve known about the Doctor Strange adaptation for some time, we’re just starting to get reports of who may join the film’s cast after Sinister director Scott Derrickson revealed on twitter that his next movie would be “STRANGE.” Marvel later confirmed that Derrickson would be directing their Doctor Strange adaptation.

Writers Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer are currently penning the script for Doctor Strange and we hope to hear more about the film now that a release date has reportedly been set.
