Marvel Studios is finally doing the thing that everyone has been asking for: A Black Widow movie.

Deadline reports that Marvel has officially put the project into development. While details are currently scarce, one person in the mix to direct the film is relatively unknown Australian director Cate Shortland (Berlin Syndrome, Lore, Somersault).

Earlier this year the studio had hired Jac Schaeffer to write a script for the potential movie, but the film wasn’t green lit at the time.

Fans have been gunning for a Black Widow movie for a while — it’s been odd to see all the Dude Avengers get movies while the women sat on the sidelines.

“I think that there’s room for a standalone movie,” said Scarlet Johansson in 2015. “The character has a really rich origin story, [and] I’ve been able to grow with the character. In my ind there’s room for plenty more Black Widow.”

In recent years, Marvel has slowly put together some projects starring the girls. Next month The Wasp (played by Evangeline Lilly) will co-star in the Ant-Man sequel. Then in March we’ll see Brie Larson star in Captain Marvel before she gets a big role in the fourth Avengers movie.
