While Marvel fans are getting ready for the premiere of Agents of SHIELD, Marvel appears to be looking to continue their move into television with an Agent Carter TV show.

Peggy Carter, played by Hayley Atwell, was Captain America’s girlfriend in Captain America: The First Avenger, which hit theaters in 2011.

In Marvel’s “One shot” short film, Peggy can be seen as a secret government agent after Cap gets frozen in ice following his plane crash into the arctic.

The latest short about Agent Carter will be included in Iron Man 3’s DVD/Blu-ray, which hits stores next week.

This also happens to be the same day Marvel’s first episode of Agents of SHIELD premieres on ABC. The show is a continuation of sorts to The Avengers.

Deadline reports that Marvel is working on a concept for “a potential TV series inspired by Agent Carter,” which is also the title of the short featured on the Iron Man 3 DVD/Blu-ray. The project is reportedly in the “very early stages, one of several in the works at Marvel,” and they’re apparently looking for a writer for the show.

It does seem unusual that Marvel would choose to create a show so closely linked to Agents of SHIELD, but Agent Carter would take place in the ’40s, when Peggy Carter was an active agent in an agency which would essentially later become SHIELD.

This would seem to fit into ABC’s action TV shows, which star strong female leads. Something similar to Alias comes to mind, but it would have a very distinct and different feel, as the backdrop would be during the 1940s. Fans can take a look at the short film clip below, which features Hayley Atwell as Agent Carter taking care of business.

Fans have been vocal about their disappointment that actress Hayley Atwell can’t be included in future Marvel films due to the roughly 70 years that Captain America had been frozen in ice, but this would be a great way to keep Atwell and Agent Carter under Marvel’s fold.

While Cap will have a new love interest in his next film (Black Widow), it’s been confirmed that Peggy will be coming back for a flashback or two in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which hits theaters April 4, 2014.
