Famed director Martin Scorsese revealed last night that he knew all about Quaaludes prior to filming The Wolf of Wall Street.

Martin Scorsese was a guest on Conan last night, and he revealed an interesting piece of information about the behind-the-scenes production of The Wolf of Wall Street.

As is common with the production of most films, it was necessary for Scorsese (and the production staff) to hire experts to guide the production of the film, ensuring that all aspects of the film are as realistic as possible. With the emphasis on drugs in The Wolf of Wall Street, a drug expert was required.

When asked who the expert is, Scorsese responded with a laugh. “I can’t say, but I could put a few words in there myself. 35 years ago, at that time they were legal. I was actually prescribed Quaalude for fear of flying. When you took that pill, you didn’t care where you were. Finally it wound down by the time you landed, thankfully, because you wanted to hug everybody and you were crying. Don’t do it, kids.”

It sounds like Scorsese had quite the adventure back in his day, and expert and script aside, we’re sure his personal experiences formed the way he filmed the Quaalude scenes in the film.

The scenes where Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill are under the influences of several Quaaludes are undoubtedly some of the best scenes Scorsese has ever filmed. Whenever the great director does unfortunately leave us, that sequence will definitely make his “best of” reel.

While Scorsese was on Conan last night, he was inducted into the “Oscar Winner F-Bomb Hall of Fame.” Typically reserved for Oscar winners who have accidentally said the word on Conan, Scorsese will be a special inductee.
