A funny quote from Martin Freeman, who’s been in the public eye as of late thanks to major roles in Sherlock and the upcoming film The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey surfaced today.

Freeman is a British actor who, unlike many others in his field, wasn’t invited for a role in Harry Potter. “I was one of the only people who wasn’t in ‘Harry Potter’, and I’m still annoyed by that,” he said to The Sunday Times Magazine.

His role as Bilbo Baggins may be his largest fantasy film to date and will surely give Harry Potter a run for its money.

So this begs the question…

What character could Martin Freeman have played in Harry Potter?

We could’ve seen him in a role as Gilderoy Lockhart (Kenneth Branagh) or perhaps Professor Slughorn (Jim Broadbent). How about you?

Freeman will show off his skills as a fantasy film star in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, opening in theaters December 14. It is the first in The Hobbit trilogy directed by Peter Jackson. Meanwhile, Steven Moffat’s Sherlock series three is expected to begin filming sometime in 2013. Benedict Cumberbatch plays the lead detective while Freeman is Watson.
