The trailer for Martin Freeman’s new film, Ghost Stories is here, and the movie looks delightfully terrifying.

Most of us know Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins from The Hobbit, Dr. Watson from Sherlock, or even Everett Ross from Marvel movies. But the actor is taking a step in a new direction, into the horror genre for the movie Ghost Stories.

The film follows Phillip Goodman (Andy Nyman), a professor who vehemently denies the existence of the supernatural. When he receives a mysterious invitation to investigate three unexplained and unsolved hauntings, he jumps at the chance. Of course, things don’t go quite as smoothly as Professor Goodman expects.

Freeman comes into the film as an investigator named Mike Priddle. It’s not clear if Priddle aids Goodman as he searches through all of the old cases, or just one. Either way, that last shot in the trailer of Freeman holding something super sketchy-looking under that blanket, telling Goodman to “shhh” has got us super suspicious about Investigator Priddle.

Ghost Stories is giving us some serious, vintage horror vibes mixed in with some new horror tropes. It looks like the movie will be one of those rare horror movies that is genuinely scary while also being a beautifully crafted film.

Written and directed by Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman (The League of Gentlemen) and based on their West End play with the same name, Ghost Stories arrives in theaters in the UK on April 13. The U.S. release date hasn’t been announced, but you can expect the flick to arrive sometime later in 2018.
