We don’t yet know who Martin Freeman will play in Captain America: Civil War, but unfortunately his character won’t be Avenger-adjacent.

Although most people agree the character roster for Captain America: Civil War is getting a little crowded, we were all excited to learn that Sherlock and The Hobbit star Martin Freeman would be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It’s still a mystery who Freeman will be playing, but today we learned two things: his character does exist in the comics, and it is not a superhero.

Radio Times has spoken to Civil War comic book writer Mark Millar about the latest addition, and while he gives nothing significant away, he does emphasize, “The character is not a super-person, it’s somebody who’s… well, I don’t want to spoil it for anybody but he’s not going to be in costume.”

“Once you get to see it, it’s so obvious,” Millar adds teasingly. “All I’ll say is, he’s not the Red Skull.”

Any guesses, comic book aficionados?

In related news, we learned earlier today that Emily VanCamp will be reprising her role as Agent 13 in Captain America: Civil War.

Marvel’s upcoming blockbuster has recently started shooting in Atlanta, and Chris Evans is back to his familiar beardless self as all-American hero Steve Rogers.

In the movie, Steve will fall out with his old ally Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), and several of their fellow Avengers will be drawn into the conflict.

Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) are among the main characters returning after Avengers: Age of Ultron.

‘Captain America: Civil War’ hits cinemas on May 6, 2016.
