Mark Wahlberg is set to star in Transformers 4, Michael Bay has confirmed on his personal website.

Exact plot details aren’t yet known for the film, although Wahlberg will be joined by a brand new cast of characters, with a story unrelated to the original films. Although with filming just months away, expect to see the rest of the cast fill out quite soon as Paramount appears to be pushing for an ambitious production schedule.

In a press release posted on Bay’s website, the director said of the casting: “Mark is awesome. We had a blast working on ‘Pain and Gain’ and I’m so fired up to be back working with him. An actor of his caliber is the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers’ legacy,” said Bay.

They’ve also released the official logo for the new film:

The press release also notes Bay will direct the Transformers 4, from a script by Ehren Kruger, who wrote the previous two Transformers installments. The film will begin shooting in the spring for a release date of June 27, 2014 from Paramount Pictures.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Don Murphy, Ian Bryce and Tom DeSanto will produce Transformers 4. Pain and Gain, the current collaboration between Bay and Wahlberg, is set for a April 26, 2013 release.
