Mark Ruffalo will be starring opposite Chris Hemsworth in Thor 3: Ragnarok, and it sounds like Hulk and Thor are gonna have a good time!

If you were doing a poll about which two Avengers would make the most unlikely road trip buddies, Thor and Bruce Banner would probably win hands-down.

Which is exactly why Thor 3 is probably going to work.

Speaking to Empire Magazine, Mark Ruffalo compares Ragnarok to Midnight Run (), calling it a “buddy movie.”

Says Ruffalo, “There’s a little bit of Midnight Run, with [Charles] Grodin and [Robert] De Niro…I feel like that’s kind of where we’re heading with this relationship between Thor and Banner…It is a universal road movie – that’s where we’re heading… It’s not where you’d think it will be, so it’s not your classic road movie but it has that structure, I think.”

Marvel is known for mixing up its genres to create memorable, individual superhero movies. Where Captain America: The Winter Soldier was a political thriller, Ant-Man was a heist. And buddy-cop road flick is clearly a genre they haven’t tackled yet (here’s hoping Captain America: Civil War is secretly their romantic comedy).

We were somewhat surprised to learn that Ruffalo’s Hulk, of all the Avengers, would join Hemsworth for the third Thor movie, since the two characters haven’t had a lot of interaction so far.

But apparently, that’s our loss. “I love Chris [Hemsworth], and it’s not an accident that we’ve been put together,” Ruffalo says, “because we have a good time together and we goof off. The fact that we’re moving towards the smart-comedic bent plays into our relationship.”

But the more we learn about Ragnarok, the more intrigued we are. It sounds like we’ll need a bit of lightness between Civil War and the Avengers finale Infinity War, Part 1 and 2.
