The Child’s Play remake is slated for release in the summer, and now we know who will be voicing the iconic villain, Chucky: Mark Hamill.

Hamill himself announced the news via his Twitter account, accompanied with a short video. Details for the remake of the classic 1988 horror movie had been on the sparse side, but Hamill’s announcement has amped up the hype for the upcoming release.

“I can’t wait to bring such an iconic character to life,” Hamill said in the video. “And present him in a way you’ve never seen him before.”

While Hamill is most commonly known for his role as Luke Skywalker, he is no stranger to tapping into his “villainous” side, as he also voiced the Joker in 1992’s Batman: The Animated Series.

Child’s Play producer David Katzenberg said in a statement, “We feel incredibly lucky to have an icon creating a new take on an iconic character. Mark is a gifted actor and celebrated vocal performer, and he’s approached this challenge with incredible energy and commitment.”

The remake of Child’s Play will follow the original story of a single mother gifting her son a toy doll, unaware that it is inhabited by the soul of a serial killer.

Lars Klevberg is directing the remake, with Aubrey Plaza and Brian Tyree Henry also starring. It will release in theaters on June 21, 2019.
