There’s been a lot of hoopla regarding whether or not the original Star Wars trio will return for Episode 7. In an interview, Lucas alluded to the fact that they all will return.

Business Week published an article today explaining how Disney bought Lucasfilm and spoke to Lucas about the details. When asked if he had kept Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford informed about the Lucasfilm/Disney deal and Episode 7 casting, Lucas stated:

“We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison – or we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation,” he said. “So I called them to say, ‘Look, this is what’s going on’. Maybe I’m not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do, but we were negotiating with them.”

However, Lucas followed up that statement by saying:

“I won’t say whether the negotiations were successful or not.”

This interview with Lucas was published just a day after Fisher stated she was returning to Star Wars, but then backtracked later and said she was “joking.” Although there’s no 100% official word whether or not Hamill, Ford, and Fisher are on board, it looks a tad bit more promising than before (there’s also been a rumor of Ford returning as Han Solo). We at Hypable think that even if the trio did return, the new trilogy wouldn’t focus on them, and instead be centered around their children.

However, if any one of them aren’t coming back, Disney said they wouldn’t recast and the characters would be written out. Also, John Williams recently stated he’d love to return to score more Star Wars films.
