Oddly missing during the game’s release, Mario Kart Tour‘s online multiplayer will be available to all players in the near future.

If you’re a Gold Pass subscriber, the Mario Kart Tour online multiplayer beta test is ready now. However, Nintendo warns that this beta won’t be as stable as users may want it to be.

The Mario Kart Tour Twitter announced the beta test, stating that it will run until December 26, 2019.

On the announcement page for the Mario Kart Tour online multiplayer beta, Nintendo warns that the rankings of the beta multiplayer won’t transfer over to the wide release. Furthermore, Nintendo states that the beta multiplayer might drain your phone’s battery faster than usual, and that the game may freeze and crash without warning.

All of the above bugs can only be expected out of any online multiplayer beta, but for players eager to show off their mobile Mario Kart racing skills around the world, this is their first opportunity to do so.

Launching Mario Kart Tour without online multiplayer felt like a bit of a tease. After all, what’s Mario Kart without races against other players? Requiring that players pay for a beta is an odd move, as typically the point of the beta is to work out the bugs in the system, rather than treat it as a reward for players that are willing to pay a monthly subscription.

Nonetheless, Tour has performed incredibly well for Nintendo, with it breaking the record for the most downloaded day one mobile game of all time. Developed by Pokémon GO creator Niantic, Tour joins the ranks of Nintendo’s highly successful gacha games. With the continued success of these gacha games, it’s likely only a matter of time until we get one for series such as Kirby or The Legend of Zelda.
