The first teaser trailer for I, Tonya is here, and in it Margot Robbie dishes up some truth cold enough to rival the frigid temperatures of the ice rink she skates on.

Over the course of her career, Margot Robbie has played a villainous anti-hero, an inexperienced grifter, the wife of a beloved children’s author, and much more. Her newest role will find the actress tackling the story of former Olympic figure skating superstar Tonya Harding, and the controversy that followed her throughout her career.

“America: it wants someone to love. But they want someone to hate,” says Robbie as Tonya when the trailer opens on a shot of the moment Harding famously landing a triple axel during the World Figure Skating Championships. “And they haters always say: Tonya, tell the truth.”

Of course, a trailer for a Tonya Harding biopic wouldn’t be complete without mention of Nancy Kerrigan. Though we don’t get a good look at the famous figure skater’s face, there’s reference to the Harding-Kerrigan scandal that made headlines all over the world back at the 1994 Winter Olympics.

As triumphant music plays, we catch a glimpse of a figure holding a police baton stalking down a corridor toward another skater wearing white — a nod to the moment in which Tonya herself was struck on the right knee at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Detroit in 1994.

“There’s no such thing as the truth,” concludes Robbie in the voiceover. “I mean, it’s bulls—!”

Directed by Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl) and written by Steven Rogers (Stepmom), the stylized biopic also stars Allison Janney as Tonya’s mother LaVonda Golden, Sebastian Stan as the figure skater’s husband Jeff Gillooly, and Caitlin Carver as fellow Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan.

I, Tonya opens in limited release in theaters on December 8.
