Marcus Sedgwick, who is most famous for his debut novel entitled Floodland, is the next writer to tackle a Doctor Who eShort. His story,The Spear of Destiny, will be out later this month.

Eoin Colfer and Michael Scott were both previously announced as the authors of the first and second eShorts featuring the first and second Doctors respectively. Marcus Sedgwick now has his name added to the growing list. Interestingly enough, Colfer recently praised Sedgwick’s latest novel Midwinterblood in the New York Times Sunday Book Review. He called Sedgwick’s work, “chilling and brilliant because it succinctly and evocatively hints at what’s to come.”

Back in October 2011, Hypable was given the exclusive details of Sedgwick’s thriller, White Crow, being made into a film.

The official description of Marcus Sedgwick’s eShort reads:

The Third Doctor and Jo Grant are trying to track down the magical spear of Odin when they find themselves caught up in a vicious battle between two Viking tribes. But one of the Vikings is even more dangerous than he appears to be. Can the Doctor stop the spear getting into the wrong hands before it’s too late?

Many viewers of the reboot era series may recognize the name Jo Grant. Jo Grant, played by the irrepressible Katy Manning, appeared in the Sarah Jane Adventures in the episode where Matt Smith’s Doctor first encounters Sarah Jane Smith.

Like the previous eShorts, the third in the planned series of eleven will be officially released on the 23rd of the month to commemorate that November 23 will be the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who.
