After months of speculation, Marc Webb has confirmed that he will be directing The Amazing Spider-Man sequel starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone.

Director Marc Webb, who directed the hit Spider-Man reboot, will be back in the director’s seat for the film’s sequel. After making $751 million worldwide, there was zero doubt that a sequel would be made with Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man. Spidey fans domestic and overseas came out in droves to see the Spider-Man reboot and despite slipping to a 73% on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie was well received by its core audience.

Marc Webb did his best to bring in the younger crowd with skateboarding montages, young romance, and high school bullying, and it worked. Despite coming out just two weeks before The Dark Knight Rises, The Amazing Spider-Man raked in enough cash to secure a sequel and left its audience wanting more with a post-credits scene which begged to be analyzed.

Earlier today, Jeff Sneider from Variety broke the news that the director would be back for the sequel and Marc Webb promptly confirmed the news with a simple tweet seen below.

You may be asking yourself why director Marc Webb would even think of passing on what will most likely be a highly lucrative directing job, but he stated in previous interviews that he had become so consumed by the first Amazing Spider-Man that he couldn’t make the decision right after finishing filming. He explained that he felt as though he’d “given birth” during the first film, and wanted to see how he felt after the press was finished. It looks like he’s finally ready to admit that he’s got a soft spot for the web-slinger and he’s ready to get back to work.

The Amazing Spider-Man sequel won’t be hitting theaters until May 2, 2014, but Webb will be starting pre-production early next year – so it looks like he’ll be back in the mind of Spidey in just a few short months. We look forward to seeing what he envisions for the sequel and also to see more of Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone who gained rave reviews for their performances as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy.

If you’ve seen the post-credits scene, do you have any ideas of where director Marc Webb will be headed for the sequel? Do you think Dr. Connors will come back as a villain or will Norman Osbourne finally be revealed?

The Amazing Spider-Man DVD/Blu-ray release date is set for November 9.
