Nice to know you, Manhattan Love Story. The quirky ABC comedy is the first fall 2014 series to get the axe.

Late Friday night, ABC made the decision to cancel its freshman comedy series Manhattan Love Story.

The ill-fated show has struggled in the ratings since its pilot, and its most recent episode scored an all-time low of 0.7 in the 18-49 demographic.

Manhattan Love Story aired Tuesday nights at 8.30/7.30c, following its fellow freshman comedy Selfie. That show hasn’t been doing too well, either, but has consistently performed slightly better than Love Story.

Until ABC makes a decision about Selfie, the show will remain in its 8/7c time slot. Three additional scripts have been ordered for the first season, which is a good sign; it’s neither a full season pick-up nor a guarantee of renewal, but it does mean ABC isn’t giving up on it yet, and wants to see how ratings and public opinion will develop.

While ABC’s new comedies aren’t doing well, the public has been responding well to its new drama series Black-ish and How to Get Away With Murder. However, Forever has also been struggling; last week’s episode scored a 1.2, while Selfie scored a 1.1. It is unlikely that both of these series will make it to season 2.

Manhattan Love Story is the first show to be cancelled this season, and pretty late in the game, too – usually the first failing series are axed in the first week of October.

One reason for the networks’ stalling might be that early on this season, a software error caused a ratings miscalculation for Nielsen, which gave a false boost to some networks.

The networks are also having an increasingly difficult time determining shows’ popularity, as less and less viewers tune in live, while DVR recording figures and online streaming numbers soar.

Manhattan Love Story not only had low numbers, however; the show was fairly ill-received, and has not managed to garner a lot of social media buzz.

The comedy starred Analeigh Tipton and Jake McDorman, and was created by Jeff Lowell. Good luck to everyone who was involved with the project!
