Earlier today Warner Bros. announced that director Zack Snyder’s Superman film, Man of Steel, will be converted to 3D and released in IMAX and 3D.

In the press release below you’ll see that Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures announced that director Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel will be “presented” in 3D in select theaters, as well as in standard 2D and IMAX. Having a choice of how to watch a film is always nice, but we all know the true reason: Money.

Man of Steel wasn’t filmed in 3D or IMAX, therefore it will receive the dreaded “3D conversion.” Now, some films have had success with 3D conversions in the past, but Man of Steel has had more of a Dark Knight feel, which doesn’t lend itself well to 3D due to the darker colors and less vibrant settings. Of course, having a similar style to director Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy isn’t surprising, as he’s the producer of Man of Steel.

But, the fact that he’s producing and a 3D conversion is occurring surprises us the most.

While a true advocate of IMAX, we didn’t expect to see a film that Chris Nolan was involved with to receive any sort of 3D conversion – as converting a 2D film into 3D always seems to leave the audience paying a little more and seeing a little less – something Nolan isn’t a fan of.

For now we’ll keep our faith in Zack Snyder and Chris Nolan’s abilities and hope that they monitor the 3D conversion of Man of Steel to make sure it’s of the highest quality.

Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill, alongside three-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams, Oscar nominee Michael Shannon, Academy Award winner Kevin Costner, Oscar nominee Diane Lane, Oscar nominee Laurence Fishburne, and Academy Award winner Russell Crowe. A well respected cast to say the least.

We look forward to seeing Man of Steel in multiple formats when it hits theaters June 14, 2013.
