After the Comic-Con announcement that the Man of Steel sequel would include Batman and Superman, fans have wanted to know the title. Now it’s been revealed that the title will be Superman Vs. Batman.

Pre-production has reportedly already started for Man of Steel’s sequel. After it was announced this past week at Comic-Con that the film would feature Batman as well as Superman, fans erupted in Hall H. According to Collider, the announcement referenced a line from author Frank Miller’s comic book, The Dark Knight Returns.

The quote reads, “I want you to remember my hand at your throat. I want you to remember the one man who beat you.” Comic fans may be aware that the line comes from Batman after he has defeated Superman. Batman will certainly need a few more tools on his belt to take on the Superman we saw in Man of Steel.

The film’s writer, David S. Goyer, announced during Superman’s 75th Anniversary panel that, “We’re actually not sure whether the title is Superman vs. Batman or Batman vs. Superman but yes, it’s–that rematch, that combination, the two guys onscreen and that’s happening.”

Fans may be curious how Warner Bros. plans to make Batman strong enough to battle Superman, and so are we. But the title that we originally thought the film would have, World’s Finest, isn’t as appealing apparently to audiences that aren’t familiar with the comics.

It should be noted that Superman and Batman are more like rival superheroes than actual enemies. The title may seem as though they’ll be fighting one another, but it’s more likely that they’ll find different ways of approaching a similar goal, resulting in a confrontation.

While we agree that World’s Finest doesn’t hold the same weight as Superman Vs. Batman, it certainly sounds like a better title. Director Zack Snyder also commented on the the film saying, “Let’s face it, it’s beyond mythological to have Superman and our new Batman facing off, since they are the greatest Super Heroes in the world.”

Maybe the studio was concerned that Man of Steel’s title may have turned some unknowing fans away from the film, not realizing that it was a Superman film. Although, we find that hard to believe considering the massive advertising campaign that was launched prior to its release.

It’s also been revealed by ComicBook.com that Warner Bros. also owns the domain names SupermanVsBatman.com and BatmanVsSuperman.com, so it certainly seems like we’ll be seeing one or the other as the title.

Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Superman, and director Zack Snyder, writer David S. Goyer, and producer Christopher Nolan, will all be included in the project which has been set for a 2015 release date. The next big step is doing the impossible: finding a worthy replacement for Christian Bale’s Batman.

We can’t say we hate the potential titles, but Man of Steel had a nice ring to it, and so did World’s Finest. But, if a simpler title means a better chance of seeing the Justice League film hit theaters in 2017 – we say go with your gut, Warner Bros.

We look forward to The Bat and Supes bare knuckling it in the streets of Gotham… or Metropolis.
