Get ready to disco, because it’s time for our first look at Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, the follow up to the 2008 megahit musical, Mamma Mia!

Based on the original Broadway musical and inspired by ABBA’s huge catalogue of catchy songs the, Mamma Mia! film quickly won audiences over in the early aughts. Because of the movie’s success, it was almost a given that we’d see a sequel.

Now, years later, we finally have our first look at our return to the gorgeous Kalokairi. And, for the most part, everyone from the original film is back for more fun.

From the looks of the trailer, the film manages to be both a sequel and prequel in one. The film tells the story of how Donna (Lily James, Meryl Streep) first found her way to Kalokairi while also following Donna’s daughter, Sophie (Amanda Seyfried), during the pregnancy of her first child.

The biggest shocker from the trailer is that Donna appears to have passed away. Streep’s Donna was a fan favorite, and even though the character will be around in what we assume are flashbacks and in Lily James’ younger version, it’s sad to see her go.

Happily, they’ve added a new character to round out the cast (and maybe help fill some of the space left by Streep). The queen herself, Cher, will be playing Donna’s grandmother. We don’t know how large of a role Cher will have in the film, but we do know that any screen time with her will be epic.

If you’re ready to go back to Kalokairi, you can get your disco on when Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again hits theaters July 20, 2018.
