MAMAMOO released the music video for “HIP,” the lead single off their new album reality in BLACK, which shows different sides of the members!

It’s well known that MAMAMOO has to deal with a fair amount of criticism from those who want to have an opinion on everything they do from their music, looks, personal life, and everything in-between. In releasing “HIP,” the members have an answer for those that want to judge them, “I don’t care much about them, just action.”

“HIP” was co-written by member Hwasa and the lyrics also give a message of just being yourself despite what anyone else says or thinks.

“I love you no matter what you say, I respect you no matter what you do,” the lyrics say.

In their “HIP” showcase on TongTongTV, the members discussed the meaning behind the song. Wheein explained, “This time, we wanted to say that whatever you are and whatever job you have, you can still be great and HIP, depending on how you view yourself and the world.”

She added on, “In other words, whatever or wherever you are, you deserve to be blessed and acknowledged for what you do.”

They also commented on what sets them apart from other groups with Solar saying, “Our songs are about being bold and confident, and our fans, especially the female ones, love how the lyrics are ‘right-in-your-face’. They are like, ‘We feel you.’ I believe that’s why we receive so much love from so many people.”

Along with the theme of exploring how their lives could have ended up so differently, the girls talked about other ambitions they had before joining MAMAMOO.

Moonbyul said, “I can’t really imagine but, if I didn’t meet my members, I think I’d be working hard to become a police officer, which used to be my dream. But still, I like this universe [where I’m a MAMAMOO member] more.”

Solar answered, “I wanted to be a flight attendant. But I realized that wasn’t my way.”

Wheein revealed she’d still want to be in the arts, “I loved dancing and drawing since I was young. So something related to art or dance.”

Hwasa laughed before giving her answer, “I think I’d just be a free soul.”
