The Mallrats sequel will most likely film in 2016, according to View Askewniverse regular Jason Mewes.
Den of Geek spoke with the actor to catch up on the filming schedule for a couple of Kevin Smith’s latest movies.
First up is Mallbrats, which will most likely begin filming around the middle of the year, whereas Clerks III is being “put on the backburner ‘til maybe the end of next year.”
Mewes confirms Jay and Silent Bob roles, and adds that he’ll be a producer on both films, which means he’ll be deeply involved in the production of the movies, as well as having a large presence on set.
Meanwhile, Kevin Smith has been working on Yoga Hosers, starring Johnny Depp, Austin Butler, Tyler Posey, Lily-Rose Melody Depp, and Harley Quinn Smith, the latter of which are Johnny Depp and Kevin Smith’s daughters, respectively. The film was initially released on January 23, 2016. You can catch a clip below, if you haven’t already seen it.
Butler and Posey currently have recurring roles on MTV with The Shannara Chronicles for the former and Teen Wolf for the latter. In fact, “barks at the moon” can be seen on the description card for Posey’s character. Smith and Posey are already acquainted, as his daughter loves Teen Wolf, so Smith has also seen and enjoys the show. The filmmaker hosted the Teen Wolf panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2016.
Marllbrats comes more than 20 years after the first film, with the top billed stars including Jason Lee, Kevin Smith, and Shannen Doherty. Clerks III will be the final installment in the trilogy and stars Rosario Dawson, Kevin Smith, and Jason Mewes.
