Disney is positioning their upcoming Maleficent sequel starring Angelina Jolie as a Halloween event.

The studio announced this morning that the movie will hit theaters October 18, 2019. It’s a significant release date change, as Maleficent 2 was previously scheduled to debut May 29, 2020.

It also has a new title: Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. Check out the new poster:

Filming began May 2018 under the direction of Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales). Elle Fanning reprises her role as Princess Aurora. New cast members include Michelle Pfeiffer (Queen Ingrith), Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ed Skrein, Robert Lindsay, and Harris Dickinson (Prince Phillip).

According to a statement from Disney sent out last year, Maleficent “continues to explore the complex relationship between the horned fairy and the soon to be Queen, as they form new alliances and face new adversaries in their struggle to protect the moors and the magical creatures that reside within.”
