Netflix released the trailer for Making a Murderer: Part 2, showing an in-depth look at the huge difficulties in the post-conviction process.

The world was absolutely captivated by Steven Avery’s story when Making a Murderer first premiered on Netflix. The tale of alleged corrupt law enforcement, alleged grudges against a man who tried to fight back against a system who wronged him, and the tragic murder of a woman simply trying to do her job turned viewers everywhere into amateur detectives, searching for truth.

With the huge response to the docuseries, it’s no surprise that Netflix was quick to tell more of Steven Avery’s story, and his search for exoneration after being convicted of the murder of Teresa Halbach. The second part of the docuseries is about to premiere on Netflix, and the streamer released a full-length trailer to show the huge challenges a person faces if they attempt to overturn what they believe to be a wrongful conviction.

Making a Murderer: Part 2 follows Steven Avery and his new attorney, Kathleen T. Zelner, who is considered an expert at overturning wrongful convictions, as well as the plight of Avery’s nephew, Brendan Dassey. While Avery claims to be wrongfully convicted of Halbach’s murder, many thought Brendan Dassey was convicted after he was coerced into confessing to crimes he never committed in an interrogation session where Dassey, a minor at the time, did not have a parent or attorney present.

It’s a confusing case, to be sure, and in the midst of Avery and Dassey’s plight to clear their names stands the Halbach family, just wanting justice to finally be served. We see a quick shot of one of Halbach’s brothers in the new trailer, where he expresses a desire to see justice served, but understanding that nothing can bring Teresa back.

Making a Murderer has proven to be an utterly confusing, captivating, and often tragic story of loss and corruption. In Part 2, the story will continue, and the question remains: will justice finally be served? We’ll have to wait for the new season to premiere on Netflix to truly find out the legal battles Avery and Dassey fight in their attempts at overturning their convictions.

And while the wait was long for new episodes to come our way after the show’s 2015 premiere, Making a Murderer: Part 2 will be on Netflix before you know it. Part 2 is set to release globally on the streamer on October 19.
