HBO’s True Detective may be coming back for a third season, with Mahershala Ali in a lead role. Game of whose Thrones?!

Following an impressive first season with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson and an, um, also existing second season with Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn, HBO might be bringing the True Detective anthology series back for a third round.

That in itself might not be super exciting news considering the series’ dramatic decline in quality between seasons 1 and 2 — but add Oscar winner Mahershala Ali to the mix, and suddenly it’s our favorite show!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Moonlight star is in “early discussions” to star in the potential third season; a few months back, we learned that Deadwood creator David Milch was interested in taking over the series from creator Nic Pizzolatto.
