Steve Franks, who created the hit comedy Psych, has another project on the horizon, called Magnolia Springs, which will feature a father-son duo.

Remember Psych? It aired for eight glorious seasons and starred James Roday as a man who pretended to be psychic in order to solve crimes and Dulé Hill, his best friend (and one of the few who actually knew the truth).

Well, the guy who created that comedic gem has another project in place, the procedural comedy Magnolia Springs. According to Deadline, CBS has bought the rights for the show.

The report states, “The project centers on the Sheriff of Magnolia Springs who discovers that this progressive and idyllic town in the new American South is a hotbed of criminal activity, and he enlists the help of his teenage son to investigate the town’s dark secrets and quirky crimes.”

Franks created the project and will executive produce it alongside Chris Henze, who also worked on Psych.

Right now, Franks serves as executive producer and showrunner for CBS’ Rush Hour, so it’s good to see he’s already got a working relationship with the network.

Creating a show focused on a father-son crime-fighting duo is a smart choice because it’ll target both older and younger generations, and therefore have a wider appeal to those tuning in to check out the show.

Nothing else has been revealed about the series so far, and it’ll probably take a bit of time until we see it on our screens, but the father-son relationship on Psych leads us to believe this will bring us humor, heartbreak, and hope in heaping helpings.

What do you think of the premise for ‘Magnolia Springs’?
