Internet streaming behemoth Netflix has ordered a reboot of the 1990s children’s television series The Magic School Bus.

In a press release, Netflix says that they’ve ordered 26 half-hour episodes of the new series which will run under the new title The Magic School Bus 360°. The show will use computer-generated animation (the image above is not a photo from the new show) and air in 2016.

Netflix’s head Ted Sarandos told the New York Times this morning that the original Magic School Bus series is the service’s “top” educational show. “’Parents trust it and kids love it,’” Mr. Sarandos said, adding that the new version will be ‘even more relevant and entertaining for today’s kids.’”

The reboot “features a modernized Ms. Frizzle and her class along with an inventive high-tech bus that invites children on high-flying hijinks that introduce the incredible world of science,” according to Netflix’s press release. “Each new episode promises thrilling discoveries, heart-pounding explorations and relatable humor, while encouraging kids to think critically and creatively to answer questions and solve problems. The series also features the latest tech innovations such as robotics, wearables and camera technology to captivate children’s imaginations and motivate their interest in the sciences.”

Netflix adds, “the all-new episodes also leverage advancements in animation, science and technology in a way that will delight a new generation of young viewers, and like its predecessor, will help kids around the world discover the magic and value of exploration and innovation.”

Netflix and Scholastic say that they are considering other joint projects, but details about those are yet to be announced.

52 episodes of The Magic School Bus aired between 1994 and 1997 on PBS.
