The sequel to the highly profitable 2012 film Magic Mike is scheduled to begin production in just a few short months, and the film now has a director attached as well as a hilariously appropriate new title.

According to The Playlist, the title of the sequel will be Magic Mike XXL, a title that could not be more hilariously appropriate as the sequel will surely be bigger in size as the strip club grows.

It had been rumored for a while that star Channing Tatum might direct the sequel himself (or with writing partner Reid Carolin), but The Playlist also says that Magic Mike XXL will be directed by Greg Jacobs.

Jacobs’ name might not ring a bell, as he’s only directed two quite small films, but he isn’t that surprising of a choice. Jacobs has been the first assistant director of Steven Soderbergh (Magic Mike director) for quite some time, so tapping him to captain the Magic Mike XXL ship will certainly ensure that there will be a smooth transition from the original.

Tatum and Carolin began writing the Magic Mike XXL script in February, but no details on what that script contains have come forth yet. It’s expected that most of the cast will return, but that too is unknown. Of all the actors from the first film it will be most interesting to see if now Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey will take the time to come back for the sequel.

What do you think of the new ‘Magic Mike XXL’ title?
