The Walking Dead is playing the long game concerning Glenn’s fate.

Two episodes ago fans watched in horror as Glenn, a character who’s been a part of the show since the very beginning, suddenly died.

Or did he?

Fans were quick to cast doubt about his supposed death, and many of the theories suggesting he survived the incident were damn compelling. Indeed, given all the evidence we reviewed two weeks ago, it seems like his death scene was indeed a fake out.

Although last week’s episode focused solely on Morgan’s backstory, the newest episode of The Walking Dead returned to present day. Sadly, Glenn did not walk through Alexandria’s gates, but Maggie dropped a big bombshell: She’s pregnant, and Glenn is (obviously) the father.

So does this development do anything to hint at Glenn’s fate?

Yes, Glenn is definitely dead: Showrunner Scott M. Gimple said in a statement two weeks ago that Glenn would return to The Walking Dead in some fashion. “In some way, we will see Glenn, some version of Glenn or parts Glenn again, either in flashback, or current story, to help complete the story,” he said.

That statement is extremely broad, but one could argue that Glenn’s child could certainly be the “version” or “parts” of Glenn that Gimple is referring to. Therefore, Glenn is dead and his child is what the showrunner was hinting at.

No, Glenn is definitely alive: Having Maggie announce that she’s pregnant with a potentially-dead person’s child will make his return much more emotional than it was already going to be. It reminds us of when Rick was reunited with Judith after thinking she was dead for weeks.

With that said, we doubt Glenn will return after Maggie gives birth. There’s no baby bump at the moment, and that aside, there’s no way it would take Glenn weeks to return. He’d die of starvation, thirst, or another threat first.

In other words: Maggie’s pregnancy announcement did nothing to sway our thoughts on Glenn being dead or alive.

When will Glenn return?

Let’s say that our old friend Glenn is indeed alive (hooray!). It can’t take him too long to return to Alexandria, can it? At worst he may have a broken bone or two after falling and having Nicholas’ body land on top of him, meaning getting back to Alexandria will be a bit of a physical struggle. If he is crippled, he’ll still need to make it back relatively quickly to avoid wolves/walkers/starvation.

Our guess? Glenn will be back by the mid-season finale at the end of November. The mid-point of any season of The Walking Dead typically offers a major twist, and with only three episodes remaining, there’s just enough time to build up a huge amount of Glenn-ticipation.
