Speaking on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show this morning, Madonna – who led the Super Bowl Half Time show this past weekend – addressed M.I.A.’s middle finger gesture that went uncensored.

From USA Today:

“I didn’t know about it until I left. I was really surprised. I didn’t know anything about it,” she said. She found out in the elevator on the way out of the venue.

“I wasn’t happy about it. I understand it’s punk rock and everything, but to me there was such a feeling of love and good energy, and positivity it seemed negative. It’s one of the those things, it’s such a teenager, irrelevant thing to do…there was such a feeling of love and unity there what was the point? It was just out of place.”

She said again that she was “more nervous” than any show every. And while performing her hit Like A Prayer with Cee Lo Green she “was overwhelmed. I almost started crying. I felt an incredible sense /// of warmth, love, and support. To see an entire stadium light up like candles – it was like a religious experience.”

But she said she “had a pulled hamstring” and immediately went off stage and put ice of her leg. The whole experience, she said, “was like winning a war.”

We think it was inappropriate and unprofessional of M.I.A. to give the finger whether or not it’s part of her image, as some have argued.
