Mad Men creator Matt Weiner and the cast appeared at The Paley Center for Media in New York City last night, and a report recapping the evening has surfaced.

At the event attended by Weiner, Vincent Kartheiser (Pete), Jessica Pare (Megan), Kiernan Shipka (Sally), John Slattery (Roger), January Jones (Betty), and Jon Hamm (Don), moderator Brian Williams ran through lots of questions.

Gothamist offered up a helpful break down of the Q&A, but the 75-minute panel can also be viewed in full below.

Some highlights from the event include the following tidbits (thanks, Gothamist):

– “Where is Peggy and Pete’s kid? Weiner says: ‘Gone into the Catholic church’s adoption system… it’s untraceable, you can’t find your birth parents. I guess you could now, but it’s pretty hard.'”

– “He says he’s told his wife and a few writers about the ending of the entire series. He says that he’s been told it’s a disaster, but he’s going with it.”

– “In the latest episode, an Old Spanish cocktail is ordered. This was a tip of the hat to 30 Rock, and is not a real drink. On the sitcom, it was made of red wine, tonic and olives.”

– “They really smoke the cigarettes on the show, which the cast says are made of ‘rose petals, marshmallow… no nicotine or tar.'”

Regarding the Mad Men series finale, we’re concerned about the comments made by Weiner. The creator may not realize it, but many viewers of Mad Men season 5 have grown concerned that the show is not what its used to be. This writer personally feels the show started to lose its spark during season 4. Nonetheless, Weiner should double check to make sure his Mad Men series finale idea is a risk worth taking.

The next new episode of Mad Men season 5 premieres this Sunday on AMC.
