The first three stills from Mad Men season 7 show Don with his partners and wife at the airport.

These Mad Men season 7 stills suggests that the airport may be symbolic of what is happening in the final episodes. Is Don jetting off to start a new life? Are others following him to whatever his destination may be? Despite leaving Sterling Cooper & Partners, Don appears to be accompanied by Roger and Peggy, while Megan is dropping him off at the airport (and looking stylish while doing so). Or, is she going with him too?

Since these are just promotional stills, they’re probably heavy on symbolism, so don’t think too much into them. One thing seems certain: Don is making a big (and possibly symbolic) move.

Mad Men season 7 will be split into two halves airing in spring 2014 and 2015 respectively. In a new interview with Vulture, series creator Matt Weiner spoke about how he’s writing around the fact that it will be a season split in two parts that will air a year apart.

“I was immediately surprised to realize that they should have some independent strength to them, these two halves,” he says. “It is one story running across. Much of what is set up in much in the first seven episodes is paid off in the last seven as we do traditionally, but the stories are denser and the first seven episodes are their own arc. What I realized is that this is kind of organic to how we tell the story here. If you look at the episode sevens over the course of the series, ‘The Suitcase,’ ‘The Lawnmower,’ ‘The Gold Violin,’ ‘The Merger,’ which was episode six but it was hour seven — we always split the season in half because that’s the midpoint for me. What I discovered is I better make sure episode eight feels like a premiere and episode seven feels like a finale.”

Mad Men season 7 premieres April 13 on AMC. A teaser trailer showing Don stepping off a plane and a psychedelic poster were released last week.
