The excitement begins! AMC have released promotional photos for the final seven episodes of Mad Men. In them, the lead characters are seen enjoying some groovy time outdoors.

Update (February 19): AMC’s dropped the first trailer for Mad Men season 7 which includes shots similar to the photos released earlier in the week. This upbeat promo, titled “The Party’s Over,” finds everyone gathered at an outdoor party, smiling at the camera or smirking at one another as Diana Ross’ “Love Hangover” plays:

Original story (February 18): After all of that time in their hum drum office, it’s refreshing to see the characters enjoying some leisure outside with cigarettes and cocktails in hand.

The early signs of Mad Men entering the 1970s are very present in these photos thanks to the fashion choices by the women. Megan’s dress is obviously one of the most fashion-forward selections.

Notably, Don looks like he’s aged quite a bit since the last time we saw him. It may be suggestive of the character’s frame of mind in these final seven episodes. The poor guy has been torn to pieces time and time again. Will he finally find some peace (and people who like him) by the time the series ends?

The first half of Mad Men season 7 ended in July 1969. While we don’t know where the second half will pick up, presumably it won’t be too long after July since we’re only halfway through the season.

When we last saw Don he was being pushed out of his own ad agency in light of his several missteps. The episode concluded with Bert’s death, but the late character came to Don in a vision at the very end of the episode where he performed “The Best Things in Life Are Free”.
