Another Sunday, another new episode of Mad Men. Relive tonight’s storyline, hear from the cast how it was designed, and discuss with fellow fans!

On tonight’s Mad Men season 6, episode 5 “The Flood,” Peggy was searching for a new place to call home but had concerns it was too far east. Awards for Excellence in Advertising were given out at a dinner event attended by Don, Peggy, and their respective advertising partners. They didn’t have their hopes up about winning, as they were placed towards the back of the room.

The evening was disrupted when Dr. Martin Luther King was shot. Everyone is understandably in shock, and Peggy’s boyfriend decides to head up to Harlem to photograph what happens in the area for the New York Times. Pete calls Trudy, who he’s currently on the rocks with, and offers to come over to comfort her. She turns him down.

Don also has concerns about loved ones: Dr. Rosen’s wife. He tries calling down to DC to see how she is but is unable to reach her. Next, Harry and Pete have an argument in the office after seeing their secretaries were out.

Later, Betty calls because Don forgot to come pick up the kids and yells at him for forgetting to get them. Don argues that he doesn’t want the kids in the city during the riots, but Betty gets to him and he obliges.

With the kids over, Sally and Megan head to a vigil while Bobby says he wants to stay home with Don because he’s sick. Don learns his punishment from Betty is he can’t watch TV, so he takes his son to see Planet of the Apes. They decide to stick around to watch it a second time because Bobby liked it so much.

Later, Henry admits he wants to run for higher office which clearly makes black-haired Betty happy. “This is what I’ve always wanted for you,” she says with a big smile.

The episode concluded with Don having a very honest conversation with Megan about the kids which leaves them both emotional. The honesty was brought on by Megan’s disappointment in Don’s dependence on the bottle. Don goes into Bobby’s bedroom and discovers he can’t sleep because he’s scared of someone shooting Henry.
