Enjoy photos of the giant balloons which made their way across New York City today for the 86th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Floats this year included classics like Mickey Mouse, Ronald McDonald, Hello Kitty, and Santa Claus. More recent pop culture figures like Sonic the Hedgehog, Buzz Lightyear, and SpongeBob were also up in the air. Macy’s and Detroit’s Thankgiving Day Parade are the longest-running parades on this holiday – both began in 1924. The event is televised live on NBC every year and features musical performances alongside the floats. Three million people were expected to line up this year to watch the parade move through the city streets.
